DO NOT expect rewards when you give to the needy.

We should do good to people simply because it’s the right thing to do. Expecting rewards makes the whole process unnatural. It’s no more about fellow human beings then, it becomes self centered. I realized this a few months back and I think it’s crucial for us to understand this fact as it tweaks the way we look at the world.

Let me give you an example. A mother is selfless. She loves her child because she feels that way, not because she wants someone to take care of her in old age. Although a good upbringing will bring comfort to her when she gets old, her FOCUS is not based on that. She is selfless, and so should we. Look at nature. It is selfless. A tree gives, but does not ask anything in return The reward will come, both in this world and the hereafter. But our intention should be on helping humanity for the sake of it, not to earn ‘rewards’.
