Were these books textually corrupted or were they available in an intact form at the time of the revelation of the Quran? The following Quranic verse may indicate that they were indeed available intact: [5:47] And the people of the Injeel shall […]

The Myth of Intercession

islamicresearch Articles , Misconceptions

Originally posted 2018-03-04 13:37:25. To believe that anyone, other than God, can intercede on our behalf to have our sins forgiven or our wishes fulfilled, is to set up partners with God. This is an act of ‘shirk’. 1- The Quran proclaims that: All intercession belongs to God. 39:44 A day to come in which there will […]

In fact, so many have taken it upon themselves to campaign for the reforming of Islam to ensure such oppression no longer continues. And in all honesty, such statements couldn’t be further from the truth. While yes, some […]

Many people carry misconceptions about the Quran that stem not from the text itself but from secondary sources, cultural traditions, and hearsay. The Quran alone offers a clear and complete message, yet it is often filtered through centuries of commentary and narration that can obscure its original intent. By returning to the scripture directly, readers can discover that many beliefs commonly attributed to Islam have no basis in the Quranic text itself. This website exists to help sincere seekers separate authentic Quranic teachings from later additions, allowing each person to evaluate the message on its own merits and come to a more accurate understanding of what the scripture actually says.

One widespread misunderstanding concerns the role of the Prophet Muhammad in relation to the Quran. While the Quran acknowledges him as a messenger and a noble example, it also emphasizes that his duty was to deliver the message, not to add to it or legislate beyond it. The scripture repeatedly calls itself complete, fully detailed, and clear, leaving no room for supplemental sources of religious law. Recognizing this distinction helps believers trust the Quran as the final authority and frees them from the burden of defending or reconciling extra-Quranic traditions that often conflict with the revealed text.

Another common misconception involves the concepts of peace and jihad. The Quran's teachings on these matters are frequently distorted by both critics and some who claim to speak for Islam. A careful reading of the scripture reveals that the term jihad primarily refers to striving and struggling in the way of God, whether through personal discipline, patience, or effort in promoting righteousness. The Quran also contains clear directives about peaceful coexistence, justice, and mercy toward others, and any verses dealing with conflict are bound by strict conditions and limitations that are often overlooked in popular discourse.

The notion that the Quran has been abrogated or superseded in parts is another idea that confuses many readers. Some claim that certain verses have been cancelled or replaced by later revelations, a belief that has no support within the text itself. The Quran consistently asserts its own consistency, stating that no change can be made to its words and that it stands as a complete and protected scripture. Understanding this principle reassures believers that every verse remains applicable and relevant, and it removes the need to dismiss or reinterpret portions of the message to fit human-made frameworks or agendas.

Finally, many people assume that following the Quran alone is a fringe or recent movement, when in fact it represents a return to the earliest and simplest understanding of Islam. The scripture calls itself the only source of guidance needed and repeatedly warns against taking other authorities alongside it. The Quranist or Submission perspective is grounded in the conviction that God's message is sufficient, clear, and accessible to every reader regardless of language, background, or scholarly training. This approach encourages personal study, critical thinking, and a direct relationship with the scripture, free from intermediaries, and it continues to attract growing numbers of sincere seekers around the world.
